Sustainable oil and gas

Oil and natural gas touch our lives in countless ways every day. Together, they supply more than 60 percent of our nation’s energy. They fuel our cars, heat our homes and cook our food.

Hydrocarbons will continue to play a very significant role in meeting this growth in energy demand, and unconventional sources of oil and gas (including the oil  We are an independent oil and gas company engaged in natural gas and that Cabot is a leader in our peer group in responsible, sustainable operations. The issue of environmental sustainability is a major concern for governments and players from oil and gas industry worldwide. The negative impacts as a result of activities carried out by oil and gas companies have been a major toll not only to the livelihood and health of people, but more so to the environment, such as pollution. Oil & Gas Identify Solutions for a Low-Emissions Future Demand for oil and gas continue to grow. More sustainable extraction, processing, transport and refining is required with increased legislation, consumer preference and competition.

Sustainable development requires job creation and inclusive economic growth. The oil and gas industry can make a significant contribution to the overall economic growth of host countries by generating much higher fiscal revenues, attracting significant foreign direct investment, and accruing foreign exchange reserves. We've long been aware of the climate change impacts from the oil and gas, coal, metals and mining industries. But this is only one slice of the sustainability pie when it comes to this so-called extractives or non-renewable resources sector. What about the impact of extractives on other social issues, or the opportunity for these industries to innovate and improve their sustainability performance? The Atlas illustrates how the oil and gas industry can most effectively support and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs for sustainable development through the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders, and by providing examples of good practices and existing knowledge and resources available in the industry on sustainable development. The oil and gas industry is committed to responsible and sustainable business, as well as serving as an essential partner to meet the challenge of achieving the SDGs. The Atlas outlines the typical roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in enhancing the industry’s contribution to sustainable development.
